Time for a coffee break? Here are Fremantle’s Best Cafe
There’s something about Fremantle that just nails the cafe scene. Maybe it’s the sea air, maybe it’s the steady supply of local creatives needing caffeine, or maybe it’s just Freo being… well Freo.
We’ve rounded up the best cafes in Fremantle that we’re in love with right now. Grab a coffee, take a seat, and you’ll see why!
Hidden gems & laneway finds
Hinata Café

A quiet little gem just off Amherst Street, Hinata Café feels like stepping into someone’s home — if their home served perfect miso-glazed salmon and matcha cake. The menu rotates seasonally with Japanese-style brunch sets that look straight out of a Studio Ghibli film. It’s all beautifully balanced, served on handmade ceramics, and somehow makes your day feel calmer from the first bite.

The Cool Room
Tucked away on a quiet street in the east end of Freo, The Cool Room is one of those spots that feels like it’s been there forever (and we hope it always will be). Mismatched tables, retro charm, and a short, sharp menu that nails the basics. It’s unpretentious in the best way. Just a good, honest cafe that locals genuinely love.

DaRawNature Studio Gallery

This one feels like a secret (and we almost didn’t want to share it). Tucked down an alley behind an old Federation building, DaRawNature is part cafe, part creative sanctuary. The space is filled with greenery, art, light, and just the right amount of peace. Coffee’s great, the team is lovely, and it’s one of the most calming places in Freo to post up with a book or just zone out for a while.

Brunch & family favourites
Moore & Moore Cafe

An old Freo favourite with a courtyard that feels like it was made for slow mornings and long catch-ups. Moore & Moore keeps things relaxed, with plenty of space for prams, grandparents, and everyone in between. The all-day brunch menu covers all the bases, and there’s usually a few cakes eyeing you off from the cabinet. Bonus points for being right next door to the Moores Building art gallery (your post-brunch wander is sorted).

Little French Nest
Cosy, charming, and just a little bit fancy, Little French Nest feels like stepping into a Parisian cafe without leaving Freo. The crêpes are buttery, the croque monsieur hits just right, and there’s even a kids’ corner to keep little ones busy while you caffeinate in peace. We believe life’s too short to drink bad coffee… or as the French would say, la vie est trop courte pour boire du mauvais café. Fortunately, you won’t find any of that here.

Cos Baby Freo
Cos Baby is one of those places that makes you feel a bit healthier just by walking in. The menu’s stacked with nourishing brunch options (yes, including the obligatory but very good avo toast), but there’s no shortage of comfort food either. Sit out front in the sunshine, order a turmeric latte if you’re feeling wholesome, and don’t skip the pancakes!

Grab-and-go greats
Peggy’s

If you’ve spent more than five minutes on food TikTok, you’ve probably seen one of Peggy’s stacked sandwiches doing the rounds (and yes, they’re just as good in real life). This little corner spot pumps out next-level sambos on fresh-baked focaccia, with fillings that hit every craving from crispy eggplant to spicy sugo. They’ve also got a solid line-up of batch brews and iced drinks if you’re rolling in caffeinated (or slightly dusty) and in need of something cold.

Best Wishes Coffee
They’ve got “best” in the name, and honestly, it’s not just for show. This small cafe keeps things simple with excellent coffee, properly good bagels, and a calm, creative vibe. They also host rotating art and photography exhibitions, often shining a light on local talent. It feels more like a community space than just a cafe, which might be why people tend to stick around a little longer.

- 9/2 Cantonment St, Fremantle WA 6160
For the coffee purists
Hush Specialty Coffee
Tucked between heritage shopfronts on High Street, Hush is one of those spots that takes its coffee seriously. They pour consistently great brews (Five Senses, if you’re wondering), and the food menu doesn’t mess around either. There’s a quiet little nook upstairs if you want to sit, sip, and pretend you’re getting some work done.

GESHA Cafe Fremantle

GESHA is one for the people who know their beans. With roasting happening in-house, the coffee here is strong, smooth, and exactly how you want it. The space is light-filled and relaxed, with a menu full of brunch classics and a few curveballs if you’re in the mood to mix it up!

Roasting Warehouse South Fremantle
Roasting Warehouse has cafes dotted around Australia (and even one in Athens, if you’re ever in the neighbourhood), but their South Freo spot feels right at home. Nestled on the corner of South Terrace, it’s big, bright, and always buzzing. The coffee is roasted on-site, the brunch menu leans indulgent, and the 6am open time is a blessing for anyone up early and under-caffeinated.

Stylish all-rounders
Good Things Fremantle
Good Things lives up to its name. It’s bright, spacious, and always smells like something worth ordering. The menu walks the line between comforting and creative, with chilli scrambled eggs, fried chicken pancakes, and other brunch favourites that never miss. Service is quick, the vibe’s always friendly, and it’s one of those places that works just as well for a solo coffee as it does a Sunday sit-down.

Chalky’s Espresso Bar

Just down from the Fremantle Round House, Chalky’s slips into that perfect “pop in, grab a feed, soak up the sun” groove. The coffee hits the mark every time, and the all-day brekky menu is full of things you’ll want to eat. We love sitting out the front and people-watching, so if that’s your thing too, you’ll feel right at home here.
